Ghana's skipper Asamoah Gyan has expressed disappointment over his absence from the Black Stars crucial clash against Egypt in the World Cup qualifiers, stressing his side are capable of covering his absence.

After their disappointing goalless draw at home with Uganda in the group opener, the Black Stars have no choice but to avoid defeat during Sunday's clash when they face the Pharaohs in Alexandria to keep their hopes alive in the qualifiers.

A defeat in Alexandria's clash means that the Pharaohs would move to the top, five points clear of the Black Stars.

“I feel bad because this particular game is key in the qualifiers," Gyan told the Ghanaian official website on Thursday.

"I was down when I suffered the injury because I was prepared mentally for this and before it happened.”

The Black Stars top scorer played down the significance of his absence, saying the Black Stars don't rely on one player.

Ghana will face Egypt without Asamaoh Gyan and lively Juventus winger Kwadwo Asamoah who will miss the game due to injuries.

"We have quality players in the team and we don’t rely on one player so I believe they will go as a team and get a positive result."

"The other players are doing well in their clubs and I believe they will prove what they can also do in the match," he added.

Egypt are on the top of group E with three points, two points ahead of second placed Ghana.

The winner of the group will represent Africa in the 2018 World Cup.
