Egypt were paired with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique in Group B of the 2023 AFCON during the draw that was held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire on Thursday.
Vitoria acknowledged the strength of the group, emphasizing that other national teams possess notable players, with Ghana presenting a formidable challenge for the title.
"Africa boasts some strong teams, and African football has become powerful and fast. Mozambique and Cape Verde have multiple players in European leagues, including Portugal," Vitoria told the Egyptian Football Association's official X account.
The Portuguese coach further emphasized the importance of being well-prepared to face formidable opponents in order to vie for the championship title.
"I am fortunate to have a group of talented players who are determined to win the African Nations Championship. Our ambition is to bring joy to the Egyptian fans by claiming the title," Vitoria concluded.
Egypt, seven-time winners of the tournament, are determined to secure their first title since 2010. They reached the final in 2017 and 2021 but were unsuccessful on both occasions, losing to Cameroon and Senegal, respectively.
Having finished atop Group D in the qualifiers with 15 points, Egypt secured their place in the finals, set to be held in Côte d'Ivoire in January. Zambia also advanced to the prestigious continental tournament by topping Group H with 13 points.
