Koka sustained a ligament injury in his foot after the Club World Cup in December 2023, where he helped his team secure a third-place finish.

The 22-year-old was a member of the Egypt U23 squad that won the silver medal at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations in July 2023, thereby securing a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He also received his first call-up to the senior national team by coach Rui Vitoria, who announced a 27-man list for the continental tournament.

The EFA confirmed in a statement that X-rays revealed the extent of Koka's injury, ruling him out of the African Cup of Nations, which will take place in Côte d'Ivoire from 13 January to 11 February.

Vitoria has yet to decide whether to replace Koka in the squad.
