They drew 2-2 against Egypt in their Group B opener, with Mohamed Salah converting an injury-time penalty to cancel Mozambique's 2-1 lead.

The Mozambican side was close to securing their first win in 12 previous attempts in four past appearances at the Cup of Nations, but Salah prevented them from making history at the expense of the Pharaohs.

"I am so frustrated with the game's result," Conde told reporters after the match on Sunday.

"Before the game, they said that we would lose 5-0, and Salah would score a hat trick.”

“But we did a great job. It was a very, very difficult game. I was saddened to see my players devastated at the end because we deserved the win."

Mozambique will face Cape Verde in their next match on Thursday, while Egypt will take on Ghana later in the day.
