On Tuesday, Namibia beat the 2004 African Champions to mark their first ever win the Nations Cup since they made their debut in the competition in 1998.
Their next game will be against heavyweights South Africa and according to Benjamin celebrations are over as the team is focused and determined to continue the success in Cote d'Ivoire.
“The noise out there whether it was 1998, 2019 or whenever doesn’t matter to them. They are blocking the noise. They are just focused on the task at hand,” the former Namibia captain was quoted as saying by CAF’s official website on Saturday.
“I have never seen such dedication group of players. On the field, in the gym, during breakfast, they are just focused. Even I am afraid of them,” he added.
Against South Africa, Namibia, who are making the fourth AFCON appearance, will be also hoping to take revenge from the 1-0 loss to the Bafana Bfana in their last AFCON encounter in 2019.
Beating South Africa would guarantee a place for the Namibians in the knockout stage for the first time ever, and according to Benjamin the team will do its best to make the Namibians proud.
“They are not only carrying their own aspirations but it’s the hopes and dreams of the entire nation. For us being underdogs to a certain extent we are immune to it,” the coach said.
“We are preparing properly and as professionals. We are going to give everything, and this is what we live for. We have people back home supporting us who we are playing for,” he concluded.
