Manchester City Egyptian winger Omar Marmoush has said he is aiming to win the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup with Egypt, highlighting the quality of the national team’s current squad.
"We’ll win the Africa Cup of Nations, of course, and then we’ll win the World Cup," Marmoush was quoted as saying on City’s official website.
The Pharaohs are preparing to participate in the 2025 AFCON, which gets underway on 21 December, as well as the next year's World Cup.
“We want to show ourselves in a good way, and we can dream of winning the tournament too, or of reaching a certain stage," Marmoush said.
"We’re not going just to make a name for ourselves. We go to the World Cup to show who we are, not just to be present. With the players we have, the team we have and the quality we have, we believe we are the best team in Africa," he added.
Marmoush joined City in January 2025 from Eintracht Frankfurt and has made a strong impression, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in 40 appearances.
"My dream was always to play for one of the best clubs in the world, so it didn’t come as a surprise when I joined City," he said.
"When you’re little, you dream of reaching this goal and of working with the best coach in the world. You imagine it, but when it actually happens, it’s something else entirely."
