Ambassador Garg was accompanied by a delegation from the US Embassy on her visit to the club’s headquarters in Gezira.
The United States will host the inaugural expanded FIFA Club World Cup edition, featuring 32 teams competing in the prestigious tournament in stadiums across 10 states.
Cairo giants Ahly, 12-time African champions, are among the four teams representing the African continent in the prestigious global competition.
Ahly will play the opening game of the tournament on Sunday, 15 June, in Miami. They will face the US side Inter Miami, led by Argentine legend Lionel Messi.
“The visit is part of efforts to enhance cooperation ahead of the club’s historic participation in the Club World Cup, which begins next month,” read a statement from Ahly on Monday.
“El-Khatib welcomed Ambassador Garg and her delegation, expressing the club’s appreciation for the visit, which comes at a significant time ahead of their departure to the US for the tournament.

“The club president commended the strong cooperation between Ahly and the US Embassy, emphasizing the potential for joint initiatives between the club and the embassy in Cairo, aligned with the importance of this historic global event,” the statement added.
For her part, Ambassador Garg expressed her excitement about visiting the club, describing the upcoming match between Ahly and Inter Miami as a historic moment in the sports relations between Egypt and the United States.
She wished success to all parties involved.
