Ahly will open their campaign in the first match of FIFA's newly expanded 32-team tournament against the US outfit Inter Miami in Miami on 15 June.
Ahly represent Africa at the 2025 Club World Cup as CAF Champions League winners alongside Tunisia’s Esperance, Morocco’s Wydad, and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
Ahly have been drawn in Group A alongside Palmeiras (Brazil), FC Porto (Portugal), and Inter Miami (USA).
“We all share the same target - to play a tournament worthy of Ahly’s name,” Fathi told the club’s official website.
“We aim to go beyond the group stage and make a deep run in the competition,” added the 30-year-old, who rejoined the Cairo giants on loan from Qatar’s Al-Wakrah SC for the tournament.
Fathi said he is honoured to be part of Ahly’s squad for the "exceptional" edition of the Club World Cup, and hopes to contribute a strong showing.
Ahly have strengthened their squad ahead of the tournament by signing Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, wingers Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan and Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed, and goalkeeper Mohamed Ahmed from Arab Contractors.
Malian international Aliou Dieng also returns from a loan spell at Saudi side Al-Kholood at the request of coach Marcel Koller.
"Ahly have a group of talented players capable of competing against top European teams. We promise to give our best and aim for positive results. We have big ambitions, and the squad is ready to face any team,” Fathi said.
Right-back Mohamed Hani, 29, echoed Fathi’s sentiments, stressing the team's experience and readiness.
“I have significant experience in the Club World Cup, having made five appearances,” said Hani, who has helped Ahly win three bronze medals in previous editions.
“We know we’ll be facing top-tier teams, but this generation has matured and gained enough experience to meet the challenge.”
