Ashour, who appeared in the prestigious tournament last edition, said that Ahly players are determined to deliver a strong performance and achieve good results in the event that will kick off on 14 June.

Ahly will open their campaign in the first match of FIFA's newly expanded 32-team tournament against the US outfit Inter Miami in Miami on 15 June. Ahly have been drawn in Group A alongside Palmeiras (Brazil), FC Porto (Portugal), and Inter Miami (USA).

"Sure, I have good memories with the club from the last edition, as I scored a goal in the opening match against Ittihad. It was a unique feeling, and it is an honour for any player to play in such a big tournament with Ahly,” the 27-year-old Ashour told the club’s official website on Sunday.

“I was also honoured to win the best player award in the game against Japan’s Urawa and ultimately win the bronze medal," he added.

“Any player hopes to be in an international tournament. I am happy with being at Ahly, and I am looking forward to achieving positive results and pleasing the club fans.

The former Zamalek player affirmed that playing the opening game against a big team like Inter Miami with the presence of star Lionel Messi is “a big honour.”

From his side, the team’s new signing Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane said that the current atmosphere at Ahly camp in the USA is “wonderful,” stressing that all players are fully concentrated on reaching “the farthest point” in the competition.

“Joining Ahly came at an excellent time; just ahead of the start of the Club World Cup. I think it is the best time to contribute to Ahly’s ambitions,” said the 25-year-old player who recently joined Ahly from Hungarian side Ferencváros.

He said Ahly team includes big names with high quality, and all of them are determined to proceed in the tournament and please the fans.

"The opening match is a strong one, and all the other opponents are at the same level. I hope the team will be in its best shape to move on," Ben Romdhane concluded.

Amid their current training camp in Miami, Ahly will be facing Mexican club Pachuca in a friendly match on Sunday night.
