President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi announced on Tuesday that he would not found a new political party to represent him during his meeting with political party leadership in Egypt for the second consecutive day, reported the Egyptian presidency.

According to the statement issued by the Egyptian presidency Tuesday afternoon, President El-Sisi told political party leaders he met earlier that he would not found a political party to represent him for fear of causing "polarisation" at a "critical" time in Egypt.

El-Sisi has also repeated his call upon political parties to form a “national party list” in the upcoming parliamentary elections in March.

Alaa Youssef, official presidency spokesperson also stressed in his statement that the president emphasised during the meeting that the state and its institutions would not support any political or partisan coalitions for the sake of neutrality in the elections.

The talks with political party leadership are the first of their kind since El-Sisi took office.

Discussing several issues, the president and party leadership discussed national security and economy.

In statements to Reuters' Aswat Masriya, Nagy El-Shabay, the head of The Generation party said that El-Sisi told the party leadership that it was difficult to amend the protest law because of current circumstances in Egypt and that he was leaving revisions up to the upcoming House of Representatives
