The Al Jamaa Al Islamiya has released a statement slamming the “Second Day of Rage” set for Friday.

In the statement, the Al Jamaa Al Islamiya, an Islamic group banned since the 1980’s over its involvement in the assassination of former president Anwar El-Sadat and other violent acts, said those calling for tomorrow’s protests are going against the will of the Egyptian people, who voted in favour of the constitutional amendments on 19 March and gave the next parliament the authority to form a committee to draft the new constitution.

The group also said the demands laid out by the organisers of the protest will weaken the armed forces and divert its attention away from more urgent matters. This, he said, will come at a time when the armies of sister Arab countries are facing destruction and will only serve the interests of the enemies of the Islamic Ummah, and lead to instability, a security vacuum and the deterioration of the country’s economy.

The group also called on the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) to make emergency decisions answering the demands of the Egyptian people, especially regarding dissolving local councils and conducting prompt and fair trials of all former regime figures. They also asked the SCAF to release all victims of the Mubarak regime before the January 25 Revolution, including political prisoners and those handed death sentences through emergency courts.

They also asked the SCAF to issue a law establishing judicial oversight of the new national security apparatus set up to replace the former regime’s now dissolved state security police, to eliminate any suspicions Egyptians may have towards the new apparatus.

They also asked Egyptians, youth of the revolution and all political forces to coordinate together to fulfil the demands of the January 25 Revolution.
