The Egyptian presidency announced in an official statement that Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's mother, Mrs. Soad Mohamed, passed away at Al-Galaa Military hospital in Cairo on Monday.
The short statement added that the funeral of the deceased will mostly be attended by family members.
The funeral will be held at Mushir Tantawi Mosque in New Cairo later Monday.
Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab has already cut short his visit to Luxor governorate. He has returned to Cairo to participate in the funeral, according to Al-Ahram’s Arabic website.
Sources in Egypt's presidency told state-owned MENA news agency that the presidency requests that people who wish to send their condolences through paid newspaper advertisements instead do so by donating the money to the "Tahya Misr" fund.
The Tahya Masr fund was established as part of a 2014 initiative by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to help fund projects and bolster the economy.
