The Supreme Council for the Armed Forces is inclined towards reassigning Mohamed El-Orabi to the post of foreign minister -- from which he resigned just last Sunday -- in the new cabinet that is yet to be sworn in, formal sources have told Ahram Online.
El-Orabi submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Essam Sharaf after three weeks in the post. Sharaf subsequently appointed Mohamed Kamel Amr, a career diplomat, to the top diplomatic job on Sunday. Amr is yet to take on the Foreign Ministry portfolio after the cabinet's swearing-in, scheduled was delayed yesterday.
Ahram Online sources stressed that while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a sovereign ministry, the ruling military council needs to approve the name of any new minister.
