Israel is on high alert, fearing attacks from Sinai during Eid

Israel’s Defence Minister Matan Vilnai claimed on Israeli radio on Tuesday that members of the Jihad organisation are planning an attack on Israel from Sinai during Eid. He said that 10 members have entered Egypt from Gaza and are planning an attack from the Egyptian border.

Vilnai also stated that Israel is taking all necessary preparations to thwart the attack and is cooperating with Egypt. Israel has been on high alert since Monday and the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth stated on Tuesday that Sinai has also been on high alert.
The Pan-Arab Al-Hayat newspaper reported that Egypt has deployed 1500 extra soldiers to Sinai - with Israel's approval- to fight extremism in zones B and C.

Negotiations are ongoing between Egypt and Israel to increase the number of troops in Sinai, according to the newspaper. An anonymous source with links to Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces told the national newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm that, "Egypt is currently studying to amend some articles in the Camp David accords," concerning the security arrangements and existence of troops in the Sinai Peninsula.
