Egypt will experience a heatwave in the coming days, starting on Thursday and rising to a peak early next week, Egypt’s Metrological Authority said on Wednesday.
The heatwave is expected to break by mid-week, the Metrological Authority said in a statement.
Cairo is expected to register highs of 40 degrees Celsius during the peak of the heatwave, while northern Upper Egypt will register averages of 41 degrees and south Upper Egypt will see highs ranging between 43 to 46 degrees Celsius.
On Thursday, Cairo will brace for highs of 39 and lows of 25 degrees Celsius, while the coastal city of Alexandria will see highs of 31 and lows of 24.
The highest temperatures will be in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Aswan, with highs of 45 and lows of 30 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
The Meteorological Authority’s statement advised citizens to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially between 12 pm to 3 pm.
They also advised people to drink lots of liquids and to swim in the early morning hours or a little before sunset to avoid direct sun rays.
