Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with a US Congressional delegation in Cairo on Monday for talks on US-Egypt bilateral relations, means of boosting cooperation and recent developments within Egypt and the region.

The delegation was led by Congressman Ed Royce, head of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and congressman Paul Cook, member of the US House Subcommittee on Middle East and North Africa.

Shoukry provided a review of Operation Sinai 2018, the ongoing anti-terrorist effort led by the Egyptian armed forces across Egypt, including the operation's various successes.

According to a foreign ministry statement, Royce said the US appreciates the sacrifices Egypt has made in its war against terrorism, adding that the US is ready to help Egypt win that confrontation.

Royce also expressed his complete understanding of the challenges Egypt is facing with regard to the Nile water issue and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

He asked what role the US could play in helping to reach an agreement between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, according to the ministry statement.

Shoukry also discussed recent developments in the Middle East, with the two congressmen asking about Egypt's evaluation of developments in Libya and Syria.

The minister shared the Egyptian vision on both issues, emphasising the importance of the centralized state to the Arab world in facing terrorism.
