After a 10-month long investigation, the Illicit Gains Authority has referred ‎former prime minister Ahmed Nazif to the criminal court on charges of abusing ‎his authority to accumulate a fortune. ‎

According to the authority's investigations, Nazif, illegally amassed LE64 million. ‎

The authority called on the court to fine him LE128 million, twice the amount he and ‎his sons are accused of stealing.‎

According to the prolonged investigations, Nazif illegally acquired land and an apartment in the affluent residential towers of San Stefano, Alexandria.  ‎

He also founded the Developing the Child and Community initiative in Smart ‎Village, Egypt’s largest business compound. He is accused of using the organisation for his own financial gain. ‎ Nazif, the investigations say, abused his power as prime minister to force governmental institutions to donate LE35 million to the organisation.‎

Drawing on his power, Nazif also appointed his wife and both of his sons to prestigious ‎positions that paid them undocumented bonuses.‎

Nazif, who was appointed prime minister in 2004, was dismissed along with his cabinet by Mubarak in an attempt to appease protesters during the 18-day uprising that ousted the president.
