Egypt is set to participate in a meeting of the information ministers of the members of the Arab Coalition Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen on Saturday.
In an official statement released on Friday, the head of Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation, Makram Mohamed Ahmed, said a number of issues would be discussed during the meeting, including how the media handles humanitarian issues in Yemen.
The meeting, which will take place in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, will include discussion of methods of “exposing crimes by Houthi fighters against the Yemenis,” and their threats to navigation in the Red Sea, Ahmed said.
The meeting will include the ministers of information of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, and other members of the coalition.
Egypt does not have an information minister, and will send Ahmed, who heads the state body which oversees the country’s media.
Egypt has been a member of the Saudi-led military coalition against the Houthi rebel group in Yemen since March 2015.
Cairo has said that its participation in the coalition came to protect the security of the Arab nation, and that it will continue to support the legitimate government of Yemen.
