Egypt's Shoukry discusses latest developments in Palestine with Fatah's El-Ahmed

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed in Cairo on Tuesday the latest developments in Palestine as well the Palestinian reconciliation process with Azzam El-Ahmed, the leading Fatah party member and head of its delegation in the national reconciliation talks.

In a statement following the meeting, the foreign ministry said El-Ahmed discussed with Shoukry the latest developments that are affecting the future of the peace process, which include the Jerusalem situation and the UNRWA crisis.

Shoukry renewed Egypt's commitment to support all of the legal and historical rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

El-Ahmed also expressed his appreciation for Egypt's continuous efforts to support the Palestinian cause and finding ways to deal with the recent challenges, stressing at the same time on the importance of the Jerusalem and Palestinian refugee issues.  

Shoukry also discussed with El-Ahmed the efforts of Fatah party and the Palestinian authority to end the rift while the Palestinian official praised Egypt's role in the reconciliation.
