Egypt's parliament speaker Ali Abdel-Aal discussed internal developments in Libya in a meeting with speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives Aqila Saleh on Tuesday.

According to a statement released following the meeting, Abdel-Aal said that Egypt fully supports the Libyan national army's current battle against armed groups and militias.

"The existence of a national Libyan army is a guarantee that the Libyan state recovers stability and sovereignty, and will be able to build its own political institutions," said Abdel-Aal, adding that "Libya will remain living in a state of instability as long as different armed groups and militias still possess weapons in an illegal way and use them against the state."

Abdel-Aal urged the world community to prevent foreign interference in the internal affairs of Libya, help a peaceful solution to the conflict there and support the rebuilding of the state.

"Foreign interventions are part of the problem in Libya, and these should stop because conditions in Libya are very important to stability in the region," said Abdel-Aal.

Saleh said that Libya highly appreciates Egypt's support and role in recovering stability.

"I want to assure you that the Libyan national army now controls 90 percent of Libya's land, and that all armed militias and groups should be dismantled in the coming stage in order to pave the way for holding free and fair elections," said Saleh, who also called for an end to foreign interference in Libyan affairs.
