At least three different events are planned to take place in Tahrir on Saturday, marking the anniversary of the 28 January “Day of Rage,” when tens of thousands of protesters braved the full force of the police early into the January 25 Revolution.
Hundreds were killed and many more injured in a day of brutal police violence that ended with the withdrawal of the police from the streets and the drafting in of the army, for many sealing the fact that the uprising was a revolution.
The events planned will include conducting afternoon prayers on Kasr El-Nil Bridge and praying for the martyrs, marches demanding the trial of those responsible for killing protesters to start from several parts of Cairo and head to Talaat Harb Square, and screening a film about the martyrs of 28 January.
