The trial of Hosni Mubarak and his associates resumed on Monday with the defence of Ismail El-Shaer, Cairo's former head of security.
Mubarak is being tried -- along with former interior minister Habib El-Adly and six of his aides -- for corruption and ordering the killing of protesters during the 18-day uprising that toppled the former president.
On Sunday, El-Shaer’s defence lawyer asked for a not-guilty verdict for his client and the other defendants, stressing that investigations into the case had been biased and inadequate.
Meanwhile, MP Akram El-Shaer has announced that parliament's health committee will visit the Tora Prison Hospital, which is preparing to accept Mubarak.
“Mubarak is detained temporarily like other prisoners and is not special. He should be moved to the prison hospital,” El-Shaer told talk show host Motaaz El-Demerdash on Sunday evening.
Following his detention in April, Mubarak suffered a heart attack and remained in the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital. He was moved to the International Medical Centre in Cairo when his trial began in August. Since then, revolutionaries have been calling for him to be transferred to a prison hospital. In early February, the interior minister agreed to transfer him to a prison hospital following a request by MPs.
