The Libyan National Army (LNA) has praised efforts exerted by Egypt under President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to maintain security and stability in Libya, an LNA official said.

During a phone call with Egyptian TV satellite DMC on Friday, Khaled Al-Mahjoub, head of the LNA mobilisation department, reiterated that Egypt is Libya’s real supporter that can help settle the situation in favour of the Libyan army and prevent Turkish intervention.

Al-Mahjoub stressed that the LNA has made great progress to uproot militias in Tripoli, adding that directives have been given to target any support from Turkey by sea or air amid complete Arab and regional rejection of interference in Libya.

His statements come as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey will send troops to Libya at the request of Tripoli as early as January, signalling mounted tensions in the region since the controversial accords signed between Ankara and Libya's UN-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) led by Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj.

In the past days, Egypt has reiterated its firm support of the east-based LNA, led by commander Khalifa Haftar, stressing its rejection of "any form of intervention in Libya’s domestic affairs."
