Cairo governorate, in cooperation with General Egyptian Book Organization, is providing a fleet of 85 public transport buses to run eight different routes to the Cairo International Book Fair, which starts on Wednesday.
Private buses and microbuses will also be organised to take visitors to the event in New Cairo, Cairo’s Governor Khaled Abd El-Aal said in a statement on Tuesday.
The different governorate agencies have finished their preparations for the 51st Cairo International Book Fair, he also said.
It is taking place at New Cairo's Egypt’s International Exhibitions Center (EIEC) and will conclude on February 4.
Abd El-Aal stated that the governorate has been cooperating with the General Egyptian Book Organization and providing it with all the facilities needed for the success of the fair.
According to the statement, the transportation provided will be available all day during the duration of the fair, and buses will pick up visitors from public squares and assembly points and drop them off at the book fair.
During the weekend and holidays, the number of buses will increase to 100, to accommodate the increased number of visitors.
The head of the public transportation agency, Rizk Ali, said that there are four other fixed bus lines that consist of 50 buses that already pass by New Cairo's EIEC on their regular routes.
The eight new routes will start from Abdel Moneim Riad Square, Abbasiya Square, New Nozha, Al-Ameriya, Giza Square, Al-Mazallat Square, El-Salam City and Helwan, and will include a number of stops.
The culture ministry issued a statement on Monday saying that Culture Minister Inas Abdel Dayem has formed an operations room at the headquarters of the book fair to follow up on the situation throughout the event.
