Egypt's manpower and emigration ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that it has contacted the country's consulate in Milan to follow up on the latest updates regarding an Egyptian expat who tested positive for the coronavirus in Italy on Saturday.
The infected citizen has been separated from his family members and will be kept in isolation before undergoing another medical exam on 16 March, according to a report sent to the ministry by the labour office attaché at Egypt's consulate in Milan.
Manpower and Emigration Minister Mohamed Safan has asked the country's labour attaché to reached out to the company where the expat works to ensure he is receiving his dues during the treatment period and to keep in touch with him to assist him with any requests.
The coronavirus has infected about 2,036 people and killed 52 others in Italy.
Globally, the virus has killed over 3,000 people, mostly in China, and infected more than 90,000 others according to the latest update from the World Health Organization.
