Egypt reported 535 new coronavirus infections on Monday, the highest daily rise since the panddmic hit the country in mid-February, bringing the total number of cases to 12,764, the health ministry said.
The ministry also reported 15 fatalities on Sunday, bringing the total number of deaths to 645.
The health ministry added that 268 patients have fully recovered and have been discharged from isolation hospitals and quarantine facilities. The total number of recoveries from the highly contagious virus now stands at 3440.
The number of patients who retested negative, including complete recoveries, has now reached 4001, ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said.
The new cases were detected through the ministry's investigation and contact tracing protocols, he added.
