Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo exchanged viewpoints on developments in the region, mainly in Libya, as well as the disputed Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

According to a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry on Wednesday, Shoukry and Pompeo discussed developments in Libya, Palestine, Syria and Yemen.

Shoukry discussed Cairo’s efforts to reach political settlements to achieve stability as well as combat terrorism and foreign interference in the region, according to the statement.

The Egyptian foreign minister also discussed developments on the GERD, including the deadlock in recent talks, which he said was due to “Ethiopia’s intransigence,” as well as the impact of the GERD crisis on regional and international peace and security.

The two ministers agreed on continued consultation and coordination in the coming period over all matters of common interest, the statement said.
