The State's ambitious development plans must be supported by a strong army that believes in the Egyptian people's right for a better future, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defence and Military Production Gen. Mohamed Zaki said.

Zaki made his remarks on Saturday during a meeting with a group of combatants serving in the Second Field Army, which was held as part of the Armed Forces General Command's keen efforts to remain in touch with combatants in army branches and military regions nationwide.

The minister started the meeting with a minute's silence to remember the martyrs of the Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives for their country.

He also conveyed President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's greetings and appreciation to all the members of the Armed Forces for their successful operations to eradicate terrorism, which undermines national security and stability as well as hampers the development process.

Zaki stressed the general command's great support and constant follow-up of brave efforts exerted by combat units in the Second Field Army to clamp down on terrorism in North Sinai.

He called upon military personnel to maintain the highest levels of combat-readiness to carry out any tasks entrusted to them and to protect national security under any circumstances.

He also underscored the general command's commitment to intensify development efforts in Sinai, applauding the patriotic role of Sinai's tribes who are the first line of defence to ensure security and stability in the peninsula.

Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Mohamed Farid attended the meeting, along with a host of army commanders.
