Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi congratulated on Thursday the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in a phone call on his recovery from the coronavirus, Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady said in a statement.

El-Sisi wished Tebboune good health and continuous wellness, the statement said.

Tebboune returned to Algeria on Tuesday after two months in a German hospital where he was treated for COVID-19 since late October, days after saying he was self-isolating because aides had tested positive for the coronavirus.

During the phone call, the Egyptian and Algerian presidents discussed means to strengthen the frameworks of bilateral cooperation between the two countries to combat the spread of the coronavirus and establish prevention measures through the exchange of experiences between the concerned agencies, according to Rady.

El-Sisi highlighted the distinction of bilateral fraternal relations between Egypt and Algeria, and voiced Egypt's aspiration to advance the frameworks of bilateral cooperation at various levels, especially in regards to strengthening communication channels between the two countries at the economic level, maximising the volume of trade exchange, and increasing inter-investment.

From his side, Tebboune expressed Algeria's appreciation for the close ties and relations that bind it with Egypt at the official and popular levels, hailing Egypt's balanced and wise interaction in dealing with various regional issues based on its pivotal political weight at the regional and international levels.

The two presidents also exchanged visions on a number of regional files, especially the Libyan crisis, where El-Sisi reviewed the ongoing efforts made by Egypt within the framework of the political track, as it was agreed to intensify joint coordination during the coming period between the two countries in order to restore security and stability in the brotherly country.
