Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri expressed appreciation for Egypt’s support for Lebanon in a Cairo meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and head of the General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.

Al-Hariri hailed Egypt’s sincere efforts in mobilising international support for Lebanon during the current stage, a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry read.

During Al-Hariri’s visit to Egypt, he met with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo.

Egypt launched an air bridge to deliver medical aid and food to Lebanon in August in the wake of a deadly blast in Beirut that killed over 200 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless.

Earlier in January, an Egyptian aid shipment to Lebanon also included tons of baby formula and protection supplies and coronavirus protocol medication

During the Wednesday meeting with the Egyptian FM and intelligence chief, Al-Hariri affirmed Lebanon’s aspiration to boost cooperation with Egypt in many priority sectors and to benefit from Egypt’s experience in achieving economic and social development.

The Egyptian side, during the meeting, reiterated Egypt’s support of Lebanese security and stability and the efforts Lebanon is taking to overcome the current challenges.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of prioritising national interests while adhering to the Lebanese constitutional commitments.

The officials also affirmed the need to accelerate efforts to form an independent Lebanese government that is capable of dealing with the requirements of the future sought by the people of Lebanon.
