Egypt has expressed its condemnation in the “strongest terms” to the Houthi militia’s targeting of Abha International Airport in the south of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
Egypt has also condemned the Houthi’s continuing hostile actions targeting the kingdom’s territory, the statement said.
The Saudi-led Arab Coalition engaged in Yemen said on Wednesday that a terrorist attack by the Iran-backed Houthi militia targeting the airport caused a fire in a civilian aircraft.
The coalition clarified in a statement that the fire was brought under control.
“Attempting to target Abha airport and threatening civilian travellers is a war crime,” the coalition said.
The foreign ministry’s statement added that Egypt has reaffirmed its solidarity and its stand with its sister country, Saudi Arabia, in facing such “sinful terrorist acts,” which threaten the security and stability of the Kingdom and the safety of its citizens and residents on its lands.
The statement added that such acts also represented a clear and direct threat to regional security and stability.
Earlier on the same day, Reuters reported, according to Saudi state television, that the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed two armed drones launched by the Iran-aligned group towards Saudi Arabia.
