Minor earthquake hits south of Giza governorate on Thursday; no casualties reported

The NRIA said it did not receive any reports on citizens feeling the earthquake or injuries or property damage

A minor earthquake measuring 2.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit in the south of Giza governorate on Thursday, said Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIA) in a statement. 

According to the NRIA, the quake was recorded at 6:19pm local time. 

The NRIA said it did not receive any reports on citizens feeling the earthquake or injuries or property damage.

Egypt is typically an earthquake safe country that is rarely struck by the natural phenomena, with the last major earthquake, measuring 5.6 in magnitude, killing over 500 people and injuring over 6,500 in 1992.
