Egypt reports 709 new coronavirus cases, 40 deaths on Sunday

Egypt detected 709 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing total cases since the outbreak last year to 204,965.

The health ministry reported 40 fatalities, bringing the death toll to 12,163.

A total of 333 patients have been discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing recoveries to 156,219.

Since Egypt has started its vaccination campaign against coronavirus in January, a total of 148,987 Egyptian citizens have been vaccinated, Minister of Health Hala Zayed said on Saturday evening.

Egypt has started its campaign with vaccinating thousands of doctors and medical workers and started in March began vaccinating the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases.

Zayed directed to increase the number of vaccination centres nationwide from 139 to 399.

So far, Egypt has received more than 900,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses and 650,000 Sinopharm doses.
