Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has emphasized on Monday the need to implement a new modern irrigation system in a meeting with Minister of Agriculture El-Sayed El-Quseir.
Madbouly reiterated that the government prioritizes this project to optimize the use of irrigation water.
The agriculture minister said the project aims to develop the irrigation systems through increasing productivity and applying water-saving agricultural practices.
El-Quseir pointed out that the development project has two phases, as the first one includes 1 million feddans, while the second has some 3.7 million feddans.
The new systems, which are suitable for all types of arable lands, aim to ensure water use efficiency and equal water supply, in addition to converting conventional irrigation systems into modern ones.
The project involves applying modern irrigation techniques, including irrigation by dripping, spraying, surface and center pivot irrigation.
