Pope Tawadros II mourns Orthodox Church bishop who died due to coronavirus

Selwanos (Silvanos), the abbot of the Monastery of Saint Pachomius the Cenobite in Luxor, Upper Egypt, passed away on Tuesday

Head of Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church Pope Tawadros II on Tuesday mourned Bishop Selwanos who died from coronavirus.
 
Selwanos (Silvanos), the abbot of the Monastery of Saint Pachomius the Cenobite in Luxor, Upper Egypt, died earlier in the day.
 
Many priests of the Coptic Orthodox Church have also died over the past months due to the pandemic.
 
Selwanos’s death comes a day after the death of monk Philopatyr in the same monastery, also due to coronavirus.
 
His death also comes less than three weeks after the death of the secretary of the monastery Sarabamon after he had contracted the virus.
 
Pavnotios, Metropolitan Bishop of the Holy Metropolis of Samalut and Taha El Aameda, performed death blessings for Bishop Selwanos.
