Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed on Monday with his Canadian counterpart Marc Garneau means of propelling and developing cooperation ties between the two countries in multiple fields, in addition to the latest developments on the Palestinian issue.
During a phone call initiated by the Canadian minister, the two sides pointed out to the continuous improvement seen by trade and economic relations between Egypt and Canada, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.
Shoukry noted that Egypt is looking forward to promoting the Canadian companies and investments’ access to the Egyptian market for participating in various major projects.
Meanwhile, Garneau was keen to get briefed on the Egyptian vision as regards the overall situation in the Middle East, particularly the latest developments on the Palestinian arena, with Shoukry reviewing Egyptian moves and contacts aimed at firming up ceasefire between Israel and Palestinians.
In this regard, the top Egyptian diplomat emphasized the need to move urgently to revive the desired political path and launch serious negotiations between the two parties, "especially since the recent weeks have undoubtedly proven that the Palestinian cause can no longer be ignored and left unresolved".
On that score, the Canadian minister praised Egypt’s pivotal role in the region, and its persistent efforts to promote security and stability in the region.
The foreign ministry spokesman said the two ministers have agreed on continuing consultations in the coming stage to coordinate stances with regard to bilateral and regional issues, as well as to topics of common interest.
