Former Housing Minister Ibrahim Suleiman has appealed his eight-year jail sentence in last year's Six of October Development & Investment Company (SODIC) corruption case, which saw Suleiman accused of violating legislation regulating tenders and auctions.
Suleiman had been sentenced to five years in jail for giving government land to SODIC, a company owned by Magdy Rasekh the father-in-law of ousted president Hosni Mubarak’s older son, Alaa. He received the remaining three years for giving his wife and other relatives government-built houses.
Suleiman has been charged with helping Rasekh acquire state land at fire-sale prices, costing the state a total of LE970 million in lost revenues.
Rasekh fled the country in July 2011.
