Eliminated presidential candidate and socialist activist Khalid Ali spoke to Ahram Online reporter Yassin Gaber as he departed Tahrir Square on Saturday evening mobbed by dozens of supporters.
"There's no reaction [to Saturday's Mubarak trial verdicts] but to build a national coalition to lead the future of the revolution," Ali said. "The court's decision will kick-start the uprising. It will help unify Egypt's revolutionary forces."
On Saturday, a Cairo criminal court slapped ousted president Hosni Mubarak and long-time interior minister Habib El-Adly with life sentences for their roles in the murder of 850 unarmed protesters during last year's Tahrir Square uprising.
All other defendants in the case, however, including Mubarak's two sons – Gamal and Alaa – and six of El-Adly's top aides, were cleared of all charges against them.
