Former Egyptian deputy premier and prominent legal expert Yehia El-Gamal blasted President Mohamed Morsi’s Sunday decree reinstating the dissolved People's Assembly (the lower house of Egypt's parliament), describing the move as "illegal and unconstitutional."

"The military council should forbid members of parliament from entering the parliament building," El-Gamal said in a statement on Sunday evening.

Morsi’s decision "completely violates legal norms," he added, pointing out that the move could be overturned by Egypt's administrative courts.

"If the reinstated parliament convenes and issues legislation, any Egyptian citizen will have the right to appeal these laws in court," El-Gamal asserted, considering "all meetings held or decisions made by this parliament to be null and void."
