Residents say they have repeatedly failed to get the governorate to solve water shortages

The popular committee of the Saft El-Laban district of the Giza governorate occupied the government headquarters on Saturday insisting they would not leave before water problem is solved.

Inhabitants of the area, according to committee members, have been suffering from extreme water shortage exasperated by the appearance of the better-off neighboring new cities.

Residents say the problem worsens during the summer.

The protesters say they have met several times with the governor of Giza who assured them more than once the problem will be solved, but to no avail.

Employees working at the governorate headquarters have not unable to leave as protesters blocked all exits allowing only women to go home.

Saft El-Laban is a lower income neighborhood located in the Giza governorate.

Water shortages and power blackouts have hit several parts of the country in recent days.
