The governor of Cairo, Abdel Azeem Wazeer says that most of the buildings used by the NDP, all the buildings of the specialised councils and the National Council for Women, belong to the governorate and may be turned into public gardens.

He says that a surveillance team was sent to the buildings, many of which were burned, ransacked and looted during the revolution, and found that most of them were damaged beyond repair.

He confirmed that the majority of them will be demolished and replaced with public gardens, which will be an extension of Tahrir Square.

The governor thought that it is possible that the adjoining Abdel Moneim Riyad Square will be annexed to Tahrir Square, to make it more presentable to visitors.

Wazeer said that the governorate has been working on a plan to upgrade the square, which will be implemented once construction work on the car park in Tahrir, due to be finished next year, is finalised.
