Fourteen were injured in the clashes in the Qalioubiya town of Al-Khasous and were taken to hospitals for treatment.
The clashes in Qalioubiya coincided with an attack by unknown assailants on a funeral at Cairo's main Coptic Cathedral, Abbasiya district, for four Copts that had been killed in earlier clashes in Al-Khosous, as well as a Muslium man.
Violence at the funeral resulted in two deaths and at least 90 injuries.
Clashes in Qalioubiya, north of Cairo, have now subsided, according to an Al-Ahram correspondent.
Hundreds of mourners were attending the funeral in the Cairo cathedral for four Coptic Christians who were killed in sectarian violence in Al-Khosous in the early hours of Saturday.
Saturday's sectarian clashes in Qalioubiya broke out after a group of Christian teenagers reportedly painted offensive drawings on the gates of Egypt's Al-Azhar building, state news agency MENA reported.
The situation escalated further when someone fired a gun into the air, killing a young boy with a stray bullet, Reuters reported.
In the aftermath of the violence, 15 people were arrested and the area was cordoned off by police forces.
A number of Christian-owned shops were reportedly smashed by angry protesters. Reuters stated that some Christian and Muslim properties had been torched.
