Supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi converged at the High Court in Ramses, downtown Cairo, on Saturday in protest of Morsi's upcoming trial.
Protesters held up yellow signs depicting the "Rabaa hand", a four-finger salute symbolizing solidarity with the victims of the violent crackdown on the Rabaa Al-Adawiya pro-Morsi sit-in this August. The protesters chanted Morsi's name and slogans like "the people salute the president's resistance."
The protest has delayed traffic in this busy Cairo neighbourhood, Ahram Arabic's news website reported.
Meanwhile, military and police forces have tightened security around the area, surrounding the High Court with cordons and barbed wire.
The pro-Morsi National Alliance to Support Legitimacy has vowed to stage daily protests until Monday, when the deposed president's trial is scheduled to begin. These protests began on Friday, with thousands staging demonstrations nationwide.
Morsi faces several charges, including involvement in the killing of protesters during the December 2012 clashes at Ittihadiya presidential palace. Seven other Muslim Brotherhood leaders will also be tried for their respective roles in the killing of protesters during these clashes.
Morsi has refused to recognise the legitimacy of the court trying him.
The deposed president, who will also face charges related to his escape from prison during the 2011 revolution, has been held at an undisclosed location since his ouster by the army on 3 July, following mass protests against his rule.
