Dozens of pro-Morsi protesters demonstrated in front of the High Court in downtown Cairo Saturday afternoon, amid a heightened security presence in front of the building, which has become a popular location for protests in support of the deposed Islamist president.
During the protest, which was called for by the pro-Morsi 'National Alliance to Support Legitimacy', demonstrators expressed their anger over the arrest of 21 female supporters in Alexandria a week ago.
A number of army supporters chanted back at protesters, according to Ahram Arabic's news website.
In a statement issued late on Friday, the Alliance condemned the arrest of the Brotherhood women, who were captured by security forces during a pro-Morsi demonstration in Egypt's second largest city Alexandria on 1 November.
The Alliance has also called for a week of demonstrations against the arrest of hundreds of Morsi supporters, who have been detained in the crackdown waged by security forces since Morsi's ouster on 3 July, which intensified following the forced dispersal of two pro-Morsi protest camps in Cairo in mid-August.
Defiant supporters of Morsi - who is currently facing trial for inciting the murder of his opponents - have continued to stage protests nationwide since his removal by the military following mass protests against his year in power.
