Several thousand engineering students gathered at Cairo University on Sunday morning to protest the killing of a fellow student by security forces.
Angry students, accompanied by professors, chanted against the interim government while carrying photos of Mohamed Reda, who died on Thursday in clashes on campus.
Students hanged a banner from the main faculty building reading: "Closed by order of the students."
Another engineering student at Cairo University, Mahmoud Abdel-Hakim, was killed by security forces on 19 November, the second anniversary of the Mohamed Mahmoud clashes.
Security forces have withdrawn from all the university gates.
The university administration announced on Sunday a three-day period of mourning for the slain students without suspending classes.
It had issued a statement on Saturday blaming the security forces and the interior ministry for Reda's death.
The interior minister has denied that police were responsible for Reda's death.
