The ratification decree was issued in the official state gazette.

The amendments to the anti-terrorism laws were approved by the House of Representatives last week.

The new amendments aim to give concerned authorities greater flexibility to combat terrorism crimes.

Among the ratified laws are amendments to Law (94/2005), including Article 36, which bans the filming, recording or broadcasting of terrorism court trials except with the permission of the presiding judge and Article 53, which gives the president of the republic the power to take the measures necessary to preserve security and public order, such as evacuating or isolating some areas or imposing a curfew on them.

In late October, El-Sisi ended the renewal of the state of emergency in Egypt, which had been declared after two attacks on churches in April 2017.
