The crime stirred uproar on social media after the victims were found in a pool of blood Thursday.
The five victims include a farmer, two of his daughters and two grandchildren, reportedly aged five and 10-years-old.
In a statement on Sunday, the prosecution said it detained the man after hearing his confession and listening to the testimony of seven witnesses, along with an examination of the crime scene.
Police investigations revealed that the suspected murderer, a farmworker in his fifties, killed the five family members after he was caught trying to sexually assault one of the daughters, the prosecution’s statement read.
The accused man told the prosecution he stabbed the farmer in the neck during a fight at the farm and that he had planned to sexually assault the daughter after drugging the rest of the family members.
The suspect said he planned to assault the daughter in retaliation after her father refused to let him marry her and that he killed the others for fear of being exposed.
The prosecution found the knife used in the crime and the suspected murderer has reenacted the crime, the statement said.
The prosecution denied claims on social media alleging an illicit relationship between the man and the farmer’s daughter, saying the witnesses’ testimonies, the man’s confessions, and the investigations all refute these claims.
The prosecution warned against speculating into the circumstances of this crime while investigations are still being conducted, stressing that those smearing people with false accusations can be subject to legal liability and punishment.
