Based on the cassation court’s ruling, Eskandarani, who has been in jail since he was arrested in December 2015, is set to be released on 30 November this year, Ali wrote on his Facebook page.

In May 2018, an Egyptian military court sentenced Eskandrani, who is researcher in Political Sociology and an expert on terrorist groups in the North Sinai, to ten years in prison for spreading false news, obtaining and spreading a defence secret illegally, according to a 2021 document from the northern Cairo military prosecution that was posted by Ali.
