The ministry’s social protection department determined 1,920 prisoners who conformed to the presidential pardon’s conditions, the ministry said.

The ministry added that it also held Eid Al-Fitr prayers inside the 10th of Ramadan correctional and rehabilitation correctional centre.

Last week, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree pardoning several prisoners in honour of Eid Al-Fitr and Sinai Liberation Day, which respectively fall on this weekend and 25 April.

The Egyptian constitution allows the president to issue pardons for prisoners who have received final court rulings. Presidential pardons are typically issued several times a year in conjunction with national and religious holidays.

Egypt has released thousands of inmates as per presidential pardon decisions in recent years on different national and religious occasions.
