According to reports, the police officer shot and killed a member of a local Arab tribe in the town of Sidi Barrani in northwestern Egypt on 11 July.

The incident occurred during a mission to combat irregular migration and drug trafficking, according to the prosecution

One person, they said, refused to comply with orders to stop his vehicle. The officer then fired shots at the vehicle, striking the driver.

After the incident, locals allegedly rioted outside the Sidi Barrani police station, throwing stones at security personnel and injuring four of them.

One rioter ran over and killed one of the security personnel, according to the prosecution.

The security forces detained the driver, who confessed to the crime during questioning, the statement said.

The accused individual has a previous criminal record, according to the prosecution.

They also arrested seven others, five of whom were found to have participated in the riot, the statement added.
